ABOUT LACFF
Los Angeles Chinese Film Festival (LACFF)’s endeavor is simple and close to our hearts - uncover and promote outstanding films either in Chinese language, by Chinese descent, or those that bridge cultural understandings. Through screenings, workshops, fireside chats, networking events, the annual Screenwriting Competition and Summit, we welcome creative talents between cultures and across generations to express our identity, perspectives, and sensibilities in filmic storytelling.
Here, we celebrate our nuanced and multifaceted identity as a Chinese filmmaker to create a truly inclusive community. Through immigration and technology, our existence is no longer bound by borders or separated by dialects. Therefore, our stories must reflect that reality. We welcome original talents who share the same vision to bring authentic stories of the Chinese diaspora to screen.
MISSION
LACFF’s mission is to create an ecosystem of communities between the East and the West, providing support to Chinese filmmakers that is lacking elsewhere. Only 2% of writers in the Writers’ Guild of America are of Asian descent; Chinese representation even smaller. Such a disappointing statistic reflects the gap, and the minimal opportunity of growth, for Asian talent representation both in front of and behind the camera. In addition to campaigning and supporting Asian talent initiatives in Hollywood, we must have our own community in which new talents can gain access to industry resources, greenlight gatekeepers, and a network of mentors and champions.
