LACFF ANNUAL SUMMIT

The people of LACFF love trying out new things and reinventing our programs to better serve Chinese creative talents around the globe. The evaluation process for LACFF’s first-ever bilingual international screenwriting competition is underway, and we want to give you a sneak peek at our carefully curated Annual Summit, which will conclude the screenwriting competition with an exciting slate of events on the metaverse platform, GatherTown. Customize your own retro-game avatar to participate, socialize, or just lay back and chill as if you were in person. This will be an event experience, unlike any others! Embrace the “in-between” identity of a cross-cultural filmmaker and meet your kindred spirits across the Pacific on November 11 – 14th. 

The summit will take place from November 11th to 14th on GatherTown, a digital platform that excels at mimicking the in-person social experience. There are so many things we love about GatherTown. Its retro-chic visual style and game-like functionalities allow the participants to create their own avatars and navigate the venue to interact with people and objects.  It is easy and dynamic to start or end conversations with other attendees -- something Zoom simply cannot compete with. Besides networking with creative talents across the Pacific, we also host a range of programming in Chinese and in English. From fireside chats with studio executives, panels on Asian writer’s incubator, interactive writer’s workshop, live pitch sessions to movie screenings and games, regardless of your interests, you will find something valuable and fun to do. We will also have the much-anticipated award ceremony where the winners of the screenwriting competition receive their recognition and cash prizes.

We have always valued diversity and inclusion, and we deeply resonate with the complex experience of creators who are in-between regions, cultures, and generations. We also believe that quality storytelling can break down walls of prejudice and underrepresentation. So as a creative community, we dedicate the screenwriting competition to this mission, and it is our sincere hope that the summit can be the place where talents of all backgrounds gather, share, and create opportunities and ideas. Let’s celebrate our community and identity, and above all, the beginning of our exciting stories ahead.
