2017 Los Angeles Chinese Film Festival Award Winners
The 2017 LA Chinese Film Festival has come to a close, and five films went home with awards, including Best Fiction Feature, Best Non-fiction Feature, Best Fiction Short, Best Documentary Short, and Best Experimental and Animation Short. The festival also recognized two films with special awards: The Independent Spirit Award and the Up and Coming Award.
BEst fiction feature king of peking
The award for best feature went to Australian director Sam Voutas’ King of Peking. The humorous and poignant film, set in Beijing during the 80s and 90s, explores the relationship between cinema and cinephiles through the story of a father and his son.

best non-fiction feature China's van goghs
China’s Van Goghs, which was screened at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, had its North American debut at LACFF, where it took the prize for best non-fiction feature. Directed by Yu Haibo and Yu Tianqi Kiki, this film is not just exceptional because of its examination of the laborers who make “Made in China” possible, but more importantly, because of how it raises questions about the relationship between “making” and “creating,” “craftsmanship” and “art.”

Director Zuxiang Zhao’s A Test won the Best Fiction Short Award.

Director Lam Can-zhao’s The Day Before Chinese New Year won the Best Documentary Short Award.

Fish Tank, directed by Haoge Liu, won the Best Experimental and Animation Short Award.

The Last Painting, from Taiwan director Chen Hung-i, had its North American debut at the LACFF, and claimed the Independent Spirit for its brave, fearless style and new, daring visual elements.
