Betty Hu is a creative producer based in Los Angeles and Shanghai with focus on developing high-quality film and TV shows for Chinese-speaking audiences. Born and raised in China with years of living experiences in Hong Kong and the U.S., Betty is interested in discovering and producing socially meaningful stories exploring identities, families, gender values and social changes of the Chinese speaking communities for the international audience.
Her most recent film credits include FINIS TERRAE (2020), winner of the Settimana Internazionale della Critica at the 77th Venice International Film Festival. In 2019-2020, Betty serves as the associate producer of Feature Film WORLD OF TALES, actively involved in its development and filming. Before the filming started, WORLD OF TALES pitched at the 2019 Beijing International Film Festival and won the MPA special recognition prize among its competitors . In 2018, she produced HIEU (2018), a realist short film by Richard Van, which was the official selection of Cannes Cinéfondation 2019, and won the Deuxième Prix (the 2nd Prize). In 2017, Betty produced AUDITION (2017), which won the Best Live-Action Short of 2018 Santa Barbara International Film Festival and screened at many others.
Betty had an MFA in Creative Producing and Management from CalArts, and an MA in Integrated Communication Management from the Communication School of Hong Kong Baptist University.
