Rui Xu

Rui Xu is an LA-based interdisciplinary producer and production manager committed to supporting daring voices and innovative forms through the facilitation of independent filmmaking. She has been working in the entertainment industry for more than a decade, holding master's degrees in Music Technology from NYU and Creative Producing from CalArts. Rui's short film, 'Hieu', won the Deuxième Prix of Cinéfondation at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. Her feature film, 'World of Tales', won the MPA Award at Beijing International Film Festival in 2019. Her recent short 'Finis Terrae' won the Special Mention FEDIC for Best Short Film at 2020 Venice International Film Festival. She produced numerous theatrical productions, including 'Night walk in the Chinese Garden', directed by Stan Lai (赖声川). Rui joined Chinese in Entertainment (Non-profit) in 2018, being the Co-Executive Director this year, overseeing the marketing and content team. Rui, as a producer, is currently working on productions include: 'Caretaker', a feature film written by Jordan McAfee-Hahn and Ryan 'Doc' Polk; and 'Viet Boy', a feature film written and directed by Richard Van; and the show ‘My Cat from Hell’ for Discovery China.
