Michelle Tong Zhou is the writer and director of several short films and other projects. She was born and raised in mainland China. She went to the US to pursue her career as a filmmaker in 2011. She wrote, directed and produced three short films, music videos and commercials in the US and China. She has received dozens of international awards, including the USA Film Festival, Screamfest Film Festival and Cannes. She worked as an executive producer and helped arrange financing on the Scott Free Productions and IM Global feature film, ZOE (2018). Currently she is working as a writer and director for an HBO Asia original anthology series, HER OWN CHOICE, on behalf of China with five other countries throughout Asia, focusing on Asian women. The theme is to explore the lives and situations of modern-age women in different cultural backgrounds. The script is completed and will go into production in 2021. She is also developing a Chinese American web series VORTEX with Oscar nominated producer Lawrence Bender. Her spec screenplay UNDER THE SNOW was selected by the Sundance Screenwriters Lab 2020 for the semi-final round. She’s repped by UTA. Now she’s preparing for her debut feature film. She’s based in Beijing due to the Covid pandemic.
