Yanyu Dong is a Chinese filmmaker, visual artist, and film festival programmer currently based in Los Angeles. She explores contemporary ethnographic practices in her work as platforms to examine her own cultural dissonance as an international artist. She received her BFA at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and her MFA at the California Institute of the Arts. She is currently working on her debut feature, and programming for festivals including the Los Angeles Chinese Film Festival and the Slamdance Film Festival. She also served as the preliminary Judge for the 4th HiShorts! Film Festival in 2020. She is a U.S. Extraordinary Artist Visa (O1) holder.
Yanyu’s work has been exhibited at venues internationally. She received the “Tom Berman Award for Most Promising Filmmaker” at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the “Best Experimental Short” at the HiShorts! Film Festival and “Best Short Award” nomination at the Edinburgh International Film Festival among others.
