Hanxiong Bo was born and raised in Beijing, and is based in Los Angeles. He is developing his first feature film and two short films in 2021.
His latest short film DRIFTING premiered at the 67th San Sebastian International Film Festival, has won the Arte Prize at the Filmschoolfest Munich, the Best Short Film Award at Reykjavík Film festival, Golden Kojita Award at Nara International Film Festival, China Award at Nowness China New Talent Awards, Critics Award at Mecal Pro Barcelona, was a Student Academy Award Semifinalist, and continued on to the 2019 CAA Moebius Showcase, Mana Contemporary Museum, and over 100 film festivals worldwide. The film is currently acquired by ARTE, U-Next and Argo.
Bo was selected to participate in the 2020 Werner Herzog’s Filmmaking Workshop in Colombia, 15th First International Film Festival’s Director Training Camp. He was a recipient of the Jack Nicholson Distinguished Student Director Award and the HFPA Directing Fellowship. He also worked as a camera operator on Francis Ford Coppola's Distant Vision. Recently, he is also supported by Starlight Media's Stars Collective.
He received his BFA degree in Film and Media Arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and his MFA degree in Film Directing from the University of California, Los Angeles.
